Social Enterprise
Social enterprises are businesses formed to fulfill a business purpose and solve societal needs through commercial activities.
AAWD will work with Indigenous Communities (with 12 Indigenous community members) to help them establish a sustainable post project business model and business enterprise within the Aviation & Aerospace supply chain, that generates revenues for the community thereby increasing community retention and the ability to generate funds to increase the well being of the community.
Examples of this could be establishing a kitting business to supply an Aerospace assembly company or a business that supports air operations.
AAWD will work in collaboration with Indigenous Skills, Employment, Apprenticeship and Development (ISEAD), local Indigenous Skills and Employment Training (ISET) Holders, Industry and subject matter experts to identify Indigenous communities, their capabilities and human resources to support development of a business and sustainable business model and provide business coaching and peer supports. This expands the Ontario Aviation & Aerospace supply chain and benefits the participating Industry companies in their understanding of Indigenous culture and their journey in their demonstration of the Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action Part 92.

The Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Association of Ontario (AME Association of Ontario) Aviation & Aerospace Workforce Development (AAWD) Project will provide opportunities to 1,677 participants. While the target focus is to Indigenous peoples, the program will be made available to all underrepresented groups including Women, Youth, New-Comers, people with invisible disabilities and those at-risk in collaboration with Industry, Industry Organizations, Indigenous & Diverse Organizations and Unions.
