Get to Know the Ontario Masonry Training Centre

The Ontario Masonry Training Centre offers a 12-week, hands-on pre-apprenticeship program in Brick and Stone Masonry which is completely free of charge. Running for over four years, the program has supported eight cohorts of 15 to 16 participants each, providing a strong foundation for a career in the skilled trades.

All tools, materials, safety gear, and instruction are fully covered at no cost to participants. The program emphasizes Cultural Safety, with an Indigenous Coordinator available in each training region to offer guidance and support throughout the experience.

The only requirement to apply is a minimum education level of Grade 10, and there is no age restriction. The next cohort will begin in Windsor, with future offerings planned for Thunder Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and the Sudbury areas.

This program is a unique opportunity to gain valuable skills and access a meaningful, in-demand career all at no cost to you.

This Masonry Training Program is designed to introduce Indigenous new entrants to the masonry trade by providing introductory trade skills and knowledge. Upon successful completion, participants will gain job-ready skills that support entry into the workforce.

 Please note: This is not a Level 1 Apprenticeship Program.

Program Overview

This program, specifically tailored for Indigenous groups in Ontario, combines classroom instruction with hands-on training, supported by wraparound services from:  Indigenous Skills, Employment, Apprenticeship and Development (ISEAD)

  • OMTC provides technical training and learning resources

  • ISEAD offers personalized guidance and community-based support

Participants will also have access to online resources to support their learning journey.

Successful Participants will Receive:

  • A masonry tool kit

  • A PPE kit

  • All required health and safety certifications

  • Ongoing support during both in-school and work placement segments

ISEAD training coordinators will work closely with OMTC instructors to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
